In contrast to American TV, which went into a dead faint a few years ago when a tiny bit of
Janet Jackson's breast was visible for 0.56 seconds, the regulators of British television have recently affirmed that
mere nudity is not inappropriate, even at mid-day. Viewers had complained about a show called "
Life Class: Today's Nude," which was broadcast over the course of a week in July, in which artists guided students through drawing techniques.
Ofcom, for British television, issued a statement saying that "Life drawing is a well-known and respected form of art. In Ofcom's view, although the images of nudity were broadcast for long periods of time, they were not presented in a sexualised manner and were clearly justified by te context."
It's nice to see that
somewhere in the world the people in charge have a
sensible view about basic human nudity.
